Adult Services to the Rescue: Episode 149

On this episode of Behavior Bitches, launch into the world of adult services. What happens to the children that we provide early intervention to? They grow up to be adults just like the rest of us! In this episode Christina Gravina, CEO and founder of Bridging Independent Living Together Inc. (BILT, Inc.), discusses how to continue to provide behavior analytic services to the adult population.
Christina explores with listeners her own history of working as a direct care staff, residential group home manager, residential area director, and behaviorist in both clinical and in-home settings. BILT, Inc. was started in May of 2019 when Christian realized that there was a huge gap in services for individuals with disabilities after the age of 21. Her main focus was on the lack of compassion within the field of adult services.
And guess what? The common hurdles still exist into adulthood including staff issues and retention, programming struggles, need for BCBAs and tough topics that still need to be covered like life skills and sexual education. She gives her own examples from her work with adults to cover many topics including natural environmental teaching, incidental teaching, concurrent schedules of reinforcement, matching law and behavioral cusps. Tune in or miss the F#%k out!
